The relation between flag carriers and their countries

Most advanced countries have flag carriers of good service, like British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Swissair, while most under-developed countries have flag carriers of poor service, like Africa.

But there are some exceptions. Sri Lanka, which is quite poor and backward, has the flag carrier - SriLankan of excellent service, having very young fleet of A320, A330-200 and A340-300. It also provides every passengers personal TV, laptop power service, personal satellite phones, even earlier than Cathay Pacific! What's more is the airline is extremely punctual.

Alitalia of Italy, which is a rich and advanced Western country, is another exception. Alitalia has rather old fleet, having inflight service lower than most European flag carriers such as lack of advanced technologes, less comfortable seats. The flight attendants are not service-minded, and there are lots of delays.

Can anyone name more such cases?
