Can I be competative for the Air Force Academy?

Hi, I'am very interested in the Air Force Academy.
I'am a sophmore and my GPA is a 3.9
I'am on the National Honor Society
I also have played football every year in High School.
My sophmore year I have gotten a 4.0 every quarter.
Next year when I'am a junior all my classes are going to be either A.P or honors,
and I am planning on going to the summer seminar the summer of my junior year.
I was wondering if i am competative for getting into the Air Force Academy?
Or what more do I need to do so I can get in.

The classes im taking...

AP human Geography. Algebra 2 Honors. English 2 Honors. Chemistry Honors...well those are my "core" classes as a sophmore...

I got voted onto the class executive board and a runner up in the homecomming court...

I have also played fast-pitch softball for many, many years and am in my second year of HS ball as a starting shortstop and a backup catcher...

What chances do I have to get accepted into the summer seminar?

I just found this website yesterday and was reading some of the posts of questions about the Air Force Academy. I am a senior in high school right now and I completed the application process. I attended the Summer Seminar and I am in contact with numerous cadets weekly. My experience and all the research I have done on the Air Force Academy is compiling up and so I thought I might be able to answer some questions people may have about the Air Force Academy. I have already responded to several, but many were posted months earlier so I don't know if these are even looked at anymore. So I thought that I would let people know that I would love to answer any questions people may have or try to at least (If anything I can ask current cadets at the academy, or my liason) point in the right direction. Please post all your questions because by answering one person's question I hope to answer many. No question is to small or dumb and the invitation is for any middle schoolers through adults. I will be checking the site weekly; however, I am very busy, but I will try my best to answer all the questions as quickly as I can.

Becoming a Pilot through the USAF

Hello,
This question is for current/past pilots that went through the USAF.

Q: I'm currently a 3rd year College student majoring in Biology. I plan on joining this year my schools USAF-Detachment program. I would like to know more about what I can expect in Flight training school. Once completing the training what would be a normal day as a pilot. When your not flying what are your duties. Do you pick, or does someone pick for you. Can you continue your education, example get a Ph.D

As a student and aspiring pilot. As important as becoming a pilot is, so is my education. I want to not only become a pilot but also a scientist. How does someone balance both while being in the USAF. What can I expect while serving my 9yrs. What are the cons.

Do you think it's possible to go to the Air Force Academy with a 3.2 GPA? I'm a Junior in high school, but I'm graduating this year. I'm going to spend a year in a church program after I graduate. After I'm done with that, I want to become a doctor, and join the Air Force. I could go through a program like the AFHPSP and get helped in paying for college, but I think it would be best if I was in the Air Force Academy. I wish I had this goal 3 years ago, because I would have prepared much more.

I'm in good health, was on the football team for a year, and on the debate team for 2 years, but my grades are really going to hurt my chances of getting accepted. I heard there was an Academy Prep School that was available. Does anyone have the details about that? Thanks.

hi people who have more knowledge than me.

I'm trying to get into the usafa but i decied on this rather late about the begining of my junior year(this school year). since then i have joined Civil Air Patrol and am due for my first promotion next meating. i am also a freshmen mentor in our schools mentoring club and i plan on running for an office next year. i also submitted an aplication to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters foundation to become a BIG and i see no reason why i would be declined. i work twenty hours a week at a local resturant and have done so for almost a year and a half(i held two jobs at one point at another resturant but do not anylonger) i have served fifty-six hours and thrity-two minutes of community service through the Salvation army and i hope to serve more through the local animal shelter. i played baseball my freshmen year and plan on going out for track this year since i beleive i can make varisty in track. my grades are probably my weakest point i had only a 3.0 (unweighted) my freshmen year a 3.2(UW) my sophmore year and im looking at about a 3.4 (UW) this year. however i am, and always have been, in the hardest classes i can take in math, science and history and get grades of B,A,A respectively. i also have four teachers and my boss writing letters of recomendations for me. however i dont know if there is a limit to how many i am allowed to have or if there is a point where it just becomes redundant. i also plan on applying to take the summer seminar this summer.

so my question is what are my chances at being accepted?

what can i do to better those chances?

where do i go from here?

F-16 pilot. He keeps a website for anyone interested in applying. No matter what stage of the application process you are in, even if you are only considering, he has some great info. Hello All!
I hope you guys/girls are enjoying the weekend! I want to pose a question on acceptance into the academy. I'm a Sophmore at a very competitive Jesuit Prep school. To get into it you need to have a great average and be a good student. So to start of I have an 88%GPA. In my school the normal classes are compared to hnrs. AP classes in Public school. Most of my Grades are above 90 but my Geometry Honors is an 75(I know horrible). I swim all year for a club team, swim for high school, play vollyball. I was named all-county swimmer this year and I'm in the newspaper.Also I do Christian service for my school by the end of my high school senior year i will have app. 100 hours of it done. I also volunteer for a chiropracter 2 times a week. I'm a founder and the President of the Future Lawyers/Mock Trial Club. Next Year I qualified for Ap-English,US History, Honors-Biology, Alg 2 Trig, Latin 3 and regular French(only French my school offers) . On my PSAT I scored 650 Math., 620 CR, and 450Writing. For my English is a Second Language because I was born in Eastern Europe but I'm an American Citizen. So, I'm sorry for the long read in your opinion how do I shape up for the AFA and can I get in, anything i need to do to improve any TIPS??

Chances of getting in

Alright, I screwed up in high school. My entire senior year, I got my act together and somehow managed to get a 2.9-3.2 GPA. I did BYU online courses and fixed all the grades that were previously failing.

However, I was on the football team for two years (Freshman and Sophomore). I wasn't captain or anything but I did my part. The remaining years I took weight training and could later on almost lift twice my body weight. My 1 mile time was 6:00-6:30 minutes.

I took the SAT Jun 2007. I got a total score of 1850. I got 600 in Reading (low I know), and a 670 in Math. It was my first time taking the SAT, I didn't study or anything.

I plan to take a year or two of college to further boost my GPA while take the opportunity to take the SAT again.

Say I pull off a high 3.0 in college, achieve a 650+ in Reading and 700 or so in Math on the SAT, and my athletic abilities remain above average...what are my chances?

I was lazy really screwed up my freshman and sophmore year each year i would get a cumulative of a 2.9 or a 3.. my 2nd semester of my junior year i got a 3.4. I also got a 26 on my ACT and am a 4 year varsity athlete, i am now dedicated to everything i do, now i workout everyday i run for a hour and do abs and weights, play tennis, and try my hardest ... i am going into my senior year and plan on getting a 4.0. Do i have any chances of getting into the academy? I really want to attend the USAFA! I hope to someday become an astronaut.

I have basically all the requirements needed, but have a few quick questions.

I have a 590 on writing, 610 on math, and 590 on critical reading for my SAT.

I know this is the low end of the mid 50% of accepted students. My question is; with these scores and a GPA of 3.95, and all the sports/physical/leader requirements covered, are my chances still good?

I am going into my sophmore year in high school, and know most of the stuff that i would have to do to get into the Air Force Academy, such as grades (i have a 3.5 gpa), ec activities (i am in cross country running, nordic skiing, track, and rowing, and i road bike, and i am almost an eagle scout, and a staff reporter on the school paper), and i am working towards my private pilots cert. I know you need a recommendation letter from a congressman or senator, and i was just wondering how to go about cultivating a relationship with a congressman. Any help would be greatly appreicated. I am going to be a senior in high school this coming up year, and I have already started the application proccess(submitted online questionare, sent nomination letters). I have a 3.84 gpa(4.0 Scale), and am 6th in a class of 99. My SAT scores were

Math: 650

Reading: 650

Writing: 670

I am going to be vice president of student council, have been an officer in the leo club for 3 years, and have over a 100 hours of community service. I have played basketball since 7th grade, but didn't play junior year (plan to play senior year). It was always a dream since I was a little kid to be a pilot in the air force, but I kind of put it aside. Now I am really interested in doing it again. I would like advice on my chances of getting accepted, and am looking for information on the other things i need to do to apply.

Hello. I'm almost done with my junior year in high school, and I've just recently been interested in wanting to go to USAFA. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I'm on the right track. I'm getting ready to take the ACT on April 12, and the SAT on May 3. I've already taken the SAT once, and bombed it completly. I got a total score of 1350. I know that's really low but I'm working on it. I've got a lot of other things to offer though. I just wanted to know with high ACT score would I be qualified to go into USAFA?

As of right now, I am a high school sophmore looking into going to either the Air Force Academy or the Naval Academy. However, seeing as these are both very competitive schools, I am a little concerned with my status compared to other kids at my age. I do well in school, but I need to improve outside of school with sports and other activities. So I was wondering how I look compared to other students my age and if I have a chance at the acedemy if I continue on this track.

I took the SATs this Janurary and here are my scores. They're a little below par, but I'm only a Sophmore and I didn't prepare for the SATs at all (just to see where I need to improve):

I am taking the most rigerous classes that I can right now in school, and my GPA is a 4.025 (weighted). Next year, I'll be taking four AP classes (Environmental Science, Calculus, Physics, and European History) and I'll be taking Honors British Literature and Honors Chemistry. Aside from regular acadmic courses, I'll be taking Gym and Intro to Law.

As for excracurricular activities, I am in World Affairs Club, Key Club, and Ski Club. I also did Model Congress and am doing Model UN this March.

Sports is a weak point for me. I'm not of shape or anything, but I haven't done any high school sports. Since I like to run, I am doing Track and Field this spring, and will probabily follow through with track next year for each season (cross-country in fall, indoor in winter, and track and field again).

I also don't have any leadership activities. I know I will be an officer in Ski club and Key Club in my senior year, and most likely be president of World Affairs Club aswell. However, there isn't anything I have now. I plan to join CAP but I lost the packet they sent me in the mail so I have to request another one.

So, as of right now, I am I doing everything I can be doing? And if so, do I have a good chance at the academy?

Please recommend me some things to do, so I have a better chance of passing the application process.

I know this board isn't updated that often, but if you could take the time to respond, I would be so thankful.

Hi, I'm currently a sophomore in HS with a 4.1GPA so far. I take many Honors classes and will be taking AP classes next year/senior year. Now for the negatives... I don't play any sports at school, but I'm in pretty good shape. I run everyother day and workout at the gym on the days I do not run. I have a spot on the Student Council and participate in various clubs and activities at school. I know my GPA is a big plus but how bad will not being in a sport/boy scouts hurt me? Thanks!

I am a Junior in high school and am planning on applying to the Air Force Academy at either the end of my Junior year or the start of my Senior year... here's what I have so far.

Freshman and Sophomore GPA is around a 3.5-3.75 (I was homeschooled my Freshman year, so while I can't get an exact estimate, I made practically A's in all the classes)

While I noticed that being an Eagle Scout is an excellent thing to have on your resume, I have never had the chance to be part of a Boy Scout club, so that works as a disadvantage.

I am taking my second year of JROTC.
I am currently in AP English Composition, and AP U.S. History.
I am in Algebra 2 (regrettebly low)
I'm in Physics (already taken Chemistry and Biology)
Volunteer both inside of school and outside, primarily in JROTC and Church.
JROTC:
Color Guard, Honor Guard, (last year) Rifle Team.
I have also volunteered for open houses at school, and other events where I have been needed.
If anyone knows what it is, I was in Raiders (part of JROTC)...
Sports:
Tennis (1 year), Rifle Team (1 year), Soccer (1 year)
I plan on doing both wrestling and soccer this year.
I also plan on taking the SAT's this winter and spring.
And, so far, my GPA is about 3.8, but should be about a 4.0 by the end of the quarter.

I'm not sure what else I may need to articulate on, but this is a basic recap...

My senior year
I plan on taking a final SAT
3rd year of Soccer.
2nd year of Wrestling.
1st year of Track.
AP Science (not sure which one)

I'll be working alongside my Senator and possibly Representative so that I can get some experience in working alongside my politicians. (I have already done this in the past, so I look forward to doing again)
My senior year is still a ways off, so there may be more things I might add to the list, but this is what I have right now.

I would really appreciate any input; comments on what I should improve; etc...
I know you are unable to determine my chances (since it was quite clear on the other boards that that is decided by the admissions board only...)
