Usually, they move up to a command possition, fly civilian, or move on to something new.

yes, semperfly's post was a little out of there, but som people do start young. I was 21 when I solo'ed on the F-16 and was operational at age 22.

Now at 35 I still have lots to learn ;o)

That's idiotic, the average age of fighter pilots is about 30 with training and all. Most pilots don't even graduate from college until they are 22. Then they have years of training. It's not about sharpness of youth, it's about experience. Just like 70 years olds are often better drivers than 18 year olds.

Even with fighter background only you can go straight into civilian jobs. Fighter hours counts more with most companies when comparing applicants.

if u fly something like a herc or galaxy u can go straight into the civily planes

When fighter pilots get older...say 22, they do paperwork. Its just one of those things they don't mention in TopGun.

I heard that after pilots get somewhat older.. say 40. They just sit there and do paperwork. Is this true? If Not, What do they do when their "done".
