Maybe it's just used when testing the engine inside the aircraft on the ground.

RUN]
---snip]

Hi RUN,

I will try to find a pic of the grill. I have noticed it on very few F-16's and it could be some kind of air intake guard from foriegn objects to protect the engine. It's strange because when you look at it from some angles it looks as if the intake has been sealed off and you would expect the aircraft's engine to flame out. Maybe it's some kind of device to enable a smooth airflow into the engine, I dont know.

Thanks

Rapier

Re:F-16 Grills

*** Posted by RUN ***
[Hi,

On some F-16's I have noticed a grill plate at the front of the air-intake.
