Yes, but they are getting better and better. First generation missiles had a tendency to go for the sun and reflections.

Wow! That's interesting. Is it possible for the missle to get confused in some way with other heat emmiting sources & who designed and developed the cooled heat seeker?

[It's a lot more sensitive when you cool it down. Cooling made it possible to go from tail acpect only to all aspect.]

Fx does something that's 25 degrees Celsius not feel especially hot to you, but if you stick your finger in a bucket of ice for 10 minutes & feel it again it would feel hot ;o)
